ITIL 5 certification cost

PeopleCert released ITIL Foundation (Version 5) on 12 February 2026. It runs in parallel with ITIL 4, not as a forced replacement. This page prices the new Foundation for first-time candidates and the cheaper Foundation Bridge route for people who already hold ITIL 4, against PeopleCert's own published UK figures.
Section 01

ITIL 5 Foundation cost (new candidates)

For someone certifying for the first time, PeopleCert has priced ITIL Foundation (Version 5) identically to the ITIL 4 Foundation. There is no version premium at Foundation level. The three PeopleCert direct options differ only in how much self-paced content and retake cover they bundle around the same exam.

PeopleCert ITIL Foundation (Version 5), UK direct pricing (list, inc VAT)
OptionList priceCurrent 25% promoWhat it includes
Exam bundle£541£406Official eBook, exam voucher, learning resource kit
eLearning£1,235£926Adds interactive eLearning and auto-marked sample papers
eLearning+£1,483£1,112Adds a free exam retake and an official mock exam

The exam bundle is the cheapest direct route to a Version 5 Foundation certificate. As with ITIL 4, third-party resellers may offer exam-only vouchers for self-study candidates below the PeopleCert bundle price, though at launch that reseller supply is thinner for Version 5 than for the established ITIL 4 exam. For the full ITIL 4 Foundation pricing picture, including reseller and Accredited Training Organization bundles, see exam fees UK.

Section 02

The ITIL 4 to Version 5 Bridge (existing holders)

If you already hold ITIL 4 Foundation, you do not have to re-sit the whole exam to get the current-version credential. PeopleCert publishes a dedicated ITIL Foundation Bridge (Version 5) aimed at ITIL 4 certificate holders, covering only what changed. It is the single cost that exists for Version 5 and not for ITIL 4, and it is materially cheaper than a fresh Foundation.

PeopleCert ITIL Foundation Bridge (Version 5), UK direct pricing (list, inc VAT)
OptionList priceCurrent 25% promoWhat it includes
Exam bundle£199£149Official eBook, exam voucher, learning resource kit
eLearning£454£340Adds interactive eLearning and auto-marked sample papers
eLearning+£546£409Adds a free exam retake

At £199 the Bridge exam bundle is about two-fifths the cost of the £541 full Foundation bundle. The Bridge only makes sense if the credential currency actually matters to your role or employer; an ITIL 4 Foundation certificate remains valid on its own terms whether or not you take it.

Section 03

Upgrade, or stay on ITIL 4?

ITIL Version 5 runs alongside ITIL 4 rather than superseding it. PeopleCert does not revoke or expire an ITIL 4 certification because a new version has shipped; it stays current under the same three-year renewal cycle. That makes doing nothing a legitimate, zero-cost option, not a lapse.

Version 5 decision for an existing ITIL 4 Foundation holder (UK)
RouteDirect costWhen it fits
Stay on ITIL 4£0Credential still valid; no employer or role requirement for the current version
Foundation Bridge to Version 5£199 to £546Employer values current-version currency, or you want the newest credential on record
Fresh Version 5 Foundation£541 to £1,483Rarely worth it for an existing holder; the Bridge covers the same outcome for less
Section 04

Higher Version 5 modules

Above Foundation, PeopleCert keeps the same commercial structure it uses for ITIL 4: accredited training is mandatory for every module, so there is no standalone exam-only fee to quote, and the comparable figure is training-plus-exam. Version 5's advanced modules were still rolling out through 2026, and their per-module pricing tracks the ITIL 4 higher-module level of around £1,359 per module via PeopleCert eLearning rather than sitting at a premium. Confirm the current Version 5 module roster and any module-specific pricing directly with PeopleCert before budgeting a full pathway, as the advanced tiers were the newest part of the launch.

Common questions

How much does ITIL 5 Foundation cost in the UK?+
Booked directly with PeopleCert, ITIL Foundation (Version 5) is the same list price as the ITIL 4 Foundation: £541 for the exam bundle (official eBook plus voucher and learning resource kit), £1,235 for eLearning, and £1,483 for eLearning+ which adds a free retake. All prices are inc VAT and verified against the PeopleCert product page in August 2026. PeopleCert is currently showing a 25% launch-period discount, bringing the exam bundle to £406.
How much is the ITIL 4 to ITIL 5 Bridge exam?+
The ITIL Foundation Bridge (Version 5) is for candidates who already hold an ITIL 4 Foundation certificate and want to upgrade without repeating the whole syllabus. PeopleCert's UK list prices are £199 for the exam bundle, £454 for eLearning, and £546 for eLearning+ (inc VAT), currently discounted 25% to £149, £340 and £409 respectively. It is materially cheaper than re-sitting the full Foundation at £541.
Do I have to upgrade from ITIL 4 to ITIL 5?+
No. ITIL Version 5 launched in February 2026 and runs in parallel with ITIL 4 rather than replacing it. An existing ITIL 4 certification does not expire because a new version exists; it stays valid and subject to the same three-year renewal cycle. Upgrading costs from £199 via the Bridge; doing nothing costs £0. The upgrade is worth it where an employer or role specifically values current-version currency.
Is ITIL 5 more expensive than ITIL 4?+
No. At the Foundation level PeopleCert has set identical list prices for Version 5 and ITIL 4: £541 exam bundle, £1,235 eLearning, £1,483 eLearning+. The additional cost that only exists for Version 5 is the optional Foundation Bridge for ITIL 4 holders, from £199, which is a cheaper route to the new credential than a fresh Foundation exam.
When was ITIL 5 released?+
PeopleCert released ITIL Foundation (Version 5) on 12 February 2026, with higher and advanced modules following through spring 2026. Confirm the current module roster and syllabus detail directly with PeopleCert, as the advanced tiers were still being rolled out through the year.
