How we calculate ITIL cost ranges
Sources
- PeopleCert published exam pricing. Direct from the PeopleCert website per region. Reviewed monthly, refreshed quarterly on this site, and immediately when a structural change is announced.
- Accredited Training Organization published prices. Named providers only, with published bundle prices visible on their public websites: Zindiak, Purple Griffon, Learning Tree, Oxford College of Technology. Providers that stop publishing a UK list price (currently ILX Group and Global Knowledge) are dropped from the priced tables rather than carried on stale figures. ATO pricing fluctuates; we date each price quote.
- UK consultancy day-rate cards. Visible consultancy rate cards, public framework pricing (G-Cloud, CCS), and named industry surveys. Anonymised practitioner contributions where named-source publication is restricted.
- Industry surveys and analyst tracker reports. DevOps Institute, ITSM Tools, Gartner ITSM Magic Quadrant commentary, and named consultancy reports where citable. Used for trend framing rather than per-line pricing.
- Programme observation. Procurement-grade scenario ranges (the worked enterprise scenarios) are calibrated against observed UK enterprise programmes in 2024 to 2026, anonymised, with line items normalised against published rate cards.
Update cadence
Cost figures are reviewed quarterly. Major changes (PeopleCert structural shifts, regional tier moves, ATO bundle restructures) trigger an immediate review. The footer of every page shows the last review date.
Last substantive review: June 2026. Next scheduled review: September 2026. Out-of-cycle updates are made when source pricing changes materially.
How figures are validated
Published figures pass through a two-stage validation discipline before they appear on a page. Stage one is named-source retrieval: PeopleCert direct pricing is read from the live PeopleCert UK booking page; named ATO bundle prices are read from each provider's public booking page (Zindiak, Purple Griffon, Oxford College of Technology, Learning Tree); UK consultancy day rates are cross-checked against Crown Commercial Service framework publications (notably G-Cloud Lot 13) where the firm is listed. Stage two is practitioner triangulation: anonymised quote data from the Digital Signet practitioner network of UK ITSM leads, IT directors, and ITIL trainers is checked against the named-source band.
Where practitioner quotes diverge from a named-source band by more than 10 percent in either direction, the band is widened or the coefficient revised, and the source citation flagged for re-read on the next quarterly review. Where divergence is under 10 percent the band stands. This is the discipline behind the "ranged" aspect of every figure: ranges reflect real variance between published headline pricing and what UK procurement teams actually pay, not arbitrary widening.
The June 2026 review re-validated PeopleCert direct pricing and the named ATO Foundation bundles against live source pages, and recorded the structural change that training is now mandatory for every module above Foundation. The next full pass is scheduled for September 2026. Between full passes, out-of-cycle updates land within a fortnight of a structural pricing change (PeopleCert tier moves, ATO bundle restructures, framework revisions). The footer last-reviewed date moves only on substantive validation, never as a cosmetic refresh.
What we do not do
- We do not run a proprietary survey and publish made-up benchmarks from it.
- We do not claim insider data we cannot show. If we cannot point to the source, we do not publish the figure.
- We do not maintain or publish an Accredited Training Organization roster, ranking, or quality rating. Naming an ATO with a published price is descriptive only.
- We do not score frameworks against each other. The vs alternatives page is allocation framing, not framework comparison ranking.
- We do not run referrer schemes for ATOs, exam vouchers, or certification training. Where Impact-network affiliate relationships exist for ITSM platforms (ServiceNow, Jira, Freshservice) on tool cost, disclosure is inline.
